Integrated into a tactical aviation brigade under the “West” Air Command, Denfix recently shared videos and a detailed account of his nighttime combat operations, especially against Iranian-made Shahed drones used by Russian forces.

“Shaheds had already entered our airspace, which meant I could be flying that night. Mentally, I was ready. Soon, the call came. I took off and received the target parameters — speed, altitude, direction. It was an attack drone,” Denfix reported.
After calculating the interception, the pilot successfully launched the missile: “I fired the missile. Seconds later, I saw an explosion in the sky. A success. Shooting down a slow attack drone with a high-speed combat missile isn’t as easy as it seems.”
Quickly directed to a second target, Denfix again successfully intercepted it: “I saw the second Shahed in my sights. Missile launch. Moments later, another explosion. Another success. These enemy drones will no longer cause damage on the ground, won’t take lives, won’t destroy infrastructure.”

During his service, Denfix has already destroyed more than 20 Russian cruise missiles and drones. In addition to air defense, he has adapted his MiG-29 to carry out precision bombing missions on ground targets.
“You never forget what it’s like to approach the front line to drop guided bombs on concentrations of enemy personnel and equipment. You operate in a dangerous environment, under threat from enemy fighters and air defense systems. But you keep going. Our will to defend the country is strong,” he emphasized.
Originally designed as an air superiority fighter, the MiG-29 has become a multifunctional platform in Ukraine’s current air campaign. Air Force officials highlight that manned aircraft remain vital for nighttime interceptions and immediate air support requested by ground forces, especially amid intensified Russian drone and missile attacks.
